The Ritual is a tense, supernatural horror that follows four old university friends who reunite for a hiking trip in the Swedish mountains. The story of the conflict between the characters themselves is brought into sharp relief by the discovery of sacrificed animal carcasses, strange shrines and human remains.
This is an overtly horror novel, so I wanted to stick with a visual style that would make it instantly recognisable to fans of the genre. Mixing ominous (and heavily treated) imagery of woodland and a woodcut-style illustration hints at the nature of the story, and hand-rendered type for both the book title and author complete the cover.
