Title: IT
Author: Stephen King
First published: 1986

A horror classic and one of my personal favourites (from a long, looong list of King books) IT follows the story of a ragtag group of misfits (The Losers), flitting across two timelines as they uncover a horrifying truth about their hometown of Derry. That something lurks there that thrives on evil…and feasts on children.

For the cover, commercially-speaking it makes sense to ensure that the author’s name is highly visible. For the creative side of things, it’s tricky to encapsulate all of the things that makes IT such an enticing read. One of the standout visuals from the story though, are the red balloons of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (aka “IT”) – so I stretched some red latex (from a balloon, no less) across a piece of board, slashed at it and scanned the results. With a bit of treatment (and piecing together the slashes) we end up with the finished cover design.

This is cover is a reimagining and not commercially available, any fonts or images used have been included as part of a personal project only.
